Eight Contest Constitution Handicap jMile Event Ninth Stake at Suffolk Woodford Lad Takes Up 122 Pounds — Samhar and Rush Act Are Next in Line BOSTON, Mass., June 25.— A field of eight of the top three-year-olds racing in New England has been named for the ,000 added Constitution Handicap at one mile, week-end feature at Suffolk Downs. The Constitution is the ninth stake of the meet- ing and the last that has been endowed for ,000 added. The remaining top attrac-1 tions range in value from ,500 added to the 0,000 added Massachusetts Handicap. Besides the Constitution, racing secretary Charles McLennan has provided two condition affairs, the first the Plum Island for juveniles, bringing 10 of the top flight two-e year-olds in training locally. The other is the North Shore Purse, exclusively for fillies and mares and carrying a purse of ,500. This is at one mile and will serve as a pre-i view to the 0,000 added Hannah Dustin Handicap to be run on July 10. It has attracted such well-known performers as Star Copy, Dense Path. Gondalina and Red Moon among others. First in Commonwealth Topweight of the Constitution field is the 122 pounds that has been assigned Woodford Lad. The Hadagal colt has shown a distinct liking for the local strip, having , won three straight, his most spectacular triumph coming in the ,000 added Commonwealth Handicap in which he scored over Sollure, Unchallenged and other for-, midable three-year-olds. " Previous to that he had taken two condition events, the mile of the Lexington Purse and the Swamp- I scott Purse at the same distance. In the Lexington he picked up 116 pounds and, raced over a heavy strip. In his present form he does not seem to be too harshly treated under his top impost. Next in line to the top weight is the Bromley and Miles entry of Samhar and Rush Act The former gets in under 118, the latter, 117. Samhar made his last start in the Bunker Hill Handicap, but finished unplaced in the mile test. Rush Act has displayed steady improvement since his being defeated by Woodford Lad in their last meeting, the son of Jacopo taking the Nottingham Purse in his last start in the sparkling time of 1:42 for the mile and seventy yards. The weight then drops to 112 pounds, the impost assigned Mrs. J. Wesslers Foray Song. Others in the company are the ca-, pable Ample Reward under 109, Queens ] Risk and Bridleour at 108 and Believe 107. t a 1 * " 1 3 a " a ■ " 1 i i • r [ r .
