J, Yarn Spinner Makes Good j | For Legion of Followers j ! Choice in Opener, Grieve Racer Beats Prince Chance at Detroit DETROIT, Mich., June 25— Yarn Spinner, favored representative of J. M. Grieve, proved best of the 12 ordinary platers who met in the first race at the Detroit Fair • I Grounds today. Well handled by Melvin Calvert, Yarn Spinner reached the finish] j of the mile and a sixteenth journey a length I and a half before Lewin and Goldstine s Prince Chance, who held a neck: margin! | over J. L. McKnights Dissension Sir at the j wire. The choice of the crqwd of 1 1 ,000 present I fat the sport. Yarn Spinner returned his supporters .20 straight, after completing ,his task over the fast track in 1:4635, commendable time. Starter Bryan Steele dispatched the field in good alignment and Yarn Spinner was away no better than eleventh, while Fond, Hopes, Jack K.. Allenjay and Dissension j Sir battled for the early advantage. The ! latter took command before going a quarter | and engaged Hi-Carl during the initial j 1 three-quarters of a mile Entering the stretch. Dissension Sir held j on gamely to protect his advantage, while j Hi-Carl dropped out of serious contention, I I soundly beaten. Yarn Spinner, who was ! sixth rounding the turn for home, moved up J I 1 resolutely on the outside and at the eighth pole was third and within striking distance of Dissension Sir and Jack K. The latter tired slightly near the finish and Prince j Chance, a fielder, then came with a rush, offering his bid. Yarn Spinner, however, had enough left to withstand Prince Chance and swept over 1 the line well in advance of the latter and ready to draw clear. Prince Chances rush netted him place honors for he disposed of Dissension Sir in the closing strides, while the latter lasted to save minor honors over Jack K.
