Illinois News and Notes ARLINGTON at Washington Park, Homewood, 111., June 25. Lieut. S. R. "Skip" Shapoff, a member of the Medical Corps, arrived from Camp Barkley, Texas, for a visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mose Shapoff. E. Dale Shaffer, part-owner of Coldstream Stable, arrived from Coldstream Stud in time to witness Seeing Eyes performance in the third race today. He expects to remain for several days of racing. Jockey Ralph Neves, a private first class, in the cavalry, returns to his post ■ft Fort Riley, Kansas, tomorrow. He rode at Hawthorne and here at Washington Park under a special permit during a furlough. Sgt. and Mrs. Victor Sovinski are in Chicago for a visit. They came from Camp Robert! in California where Sgt. Sovinski j is in service. Mrs. Sovinski has a stable of horses racing at Washington Park | under the direction of E. E. Irby. Mrs. H. J. Damms Hoosier Miss and Oust have been sent to Douglas Davis j High Hope Stock Farm near Lexington to be turned out. Jockey M. Pena is due here over the week-end from Suffolk Downs. He will be affiliated at Washington Park with the stable maintained by H. H. Haag. s O. S. Jones, part owner of the Silver Star Stock Farm, has returned to his home in Dallas after spending some time in, Chicago. Frank Catrone, trainer of the Valdina Farm stable, has received instructions to report for military service on July 3. Carroll Bierman may affiliate with one of the larger stables here. At present he is riding free lance. L. D. Glasser has taken over the training of Ubiquitous and Millmore for C. H. Dursch. Sgt. Geo. Nugent, son of the horseman Frank Nugent, is in Chicago for a few days. He comes from Camp Crowder, Mo. Jerry McCarthys OBalladier has been sent to Kentucky to be turned out. FAIRMOUNT PARK, Collinsville, 111., June 25. In winning one race Thursday, Willie Mc-Cadden took the riding leadership from Robert Reeves. The score now shows Mc-Cadden with 21 victories and Reeves one winning mount to the rear. However, Mc-Cadden packed his tack this morning and departed for Toledo, relinquishing his chance to lead the local riders. Granger Williams, accompanied by his wife, arrived from their home in Nashville, Tenn. Mr. Williams owns Miss Tipper, which he saw finish second to Shopper on Thursdays program. Warren Cornay, who arrived here recently from Mexico City, left Friday morning and announced he would accept mounts at the Toledo Jockey Club meeting which opens Saturday. Another belated registration was the veteran platers Monon Lad and Wont Lie, owned and trained by Gail Roberts. Jockey W. Bailey failed to pass his physical examination, returned from Chicago and swung into action again.
