, Joliette Qualifies For Holiday Event Wall Juvenile Repeats Her Recent Scoje to Earn Right To Go in Lassies Handicap DETROIT, Mich., June 28. In all probability Joliette today earned the honor of flaunting owner A. P. Walls silks in the July 4th two-year-old highlight, the ,500 Lassies Handicap, by virtue of her success in the opener at the Fail- Grounds today. The juvenile daughter of Unbreakable Evangelist II, looked real good under Jimmy Laytons handling in accounting for the five furlongs tilt in 1:00 over a fast track. In this second consecutive triumph of her short career, she won her only previous outing, the black-coated filly led Maybe Tops.by three parts of a length at the finish while Plover Brand, who was knocked back while moving forward with a rush rounding the far turn, had to be content with third position a length and one-half farther back. Perhaps this son of Big Brand might have been closer but for being forced to take up. When he again started it was too late. Circles Field, to Triumph Joliette was installed favorite and as such paid .60. She scored as a choice should. Although her margin was not great it may have been more but for the fact that she had to circle the field to accomplish her objective. Prominentia and Mia Maria had the early speed and they alternated in setting and pressing the pace. The winner raced along in eighth position briefly. Then, approachingfhe three-furlong marker she started to move. And, once started the pleasing-running miss really "turned it on." Bruce Mclntire, who conditions Joliette, contemplated naming her for the Lassies but had decided she would have to warrant it. Todays effort was sufficient. Cenini and Marleys Marmac overpowered the leaders through the stretch to outstay Mia Mia by a nose for winning honors in the second. He as well as Mia Mia moved together and from the outside rounding the far turn and the pair fought it out in the run to the finish. Third position went to Spartiate. Time for the six furlongs was .1:12 and a winning ticket was worth .10. .
