Take Wing Meets Grasshopper II. Seek Reigh Count Handicap At Homewood Over Mile and Sixteenth on Turf Course HOMEWOOD, 111., June 28. Take Wing, holder of a couple of track records on the turf at Washington Park, will likely be favored in the Reigh Count, feature race at that course Thursday. The distance will be one and one-sixteenth miles on the grass and Take Wing who in his only previous start at this session finished second to Put In under similar racing conditions will have as his chief opponent the imported Grasshopper II. He may have his work cut out for him as Grasshopper TL. is far from being a slouch on the greensward. He was a potent factor in several such races last season and will be making his first appearance in the Chicago area this year. The Reigh Count is a .handicap for a ,000 purse and racing secretary Everett, despite those two track marks in the book as testimony of Take Wings prowess, has placed 122 pounds on Grasshopper II. which is four pounds more than that which Take Wing will be burdened. The company will embrace six horses representing five different interests as Full Cry and The Finest will run coupled as the Brolite Farm entry. Others in the field are Martian and Bushwhacker both of whom Jiave demon- strated a liking for the turf course. Eleven in Secondary Offering The chief supporting feature of the day and a race calling for the output of a ,500 purse on the part of the management is a grade "D" affair for three-year-olds and upward at seven furlongs. Eleven have been entered and it is a wide open race with Bobs Dream, Vinum and Mae-james all rated equal through the conditions. Bobs Dream, whose owner failed to claim the apprentice allowance, will carry 120 pounds and Vinum and Mae-james wil each have 115 with the "bug." Among other strong contenders named are Mixer, Winter Rules, Alfios, Whose and Havaheart. Two juvenile races are down for decision Thursday, the most important being an event named the Thingumabob. Five top youngsters will vie for the honors. Ican-getit, one of the best of his age in this area and winner of the Joliet Stakes at Hawthorne, is the top weight. Snow Boots and Alfa, also winners at the Cicero track, will be among those present. The others are Best Effort and Fox Rime. The latter recently graduated at Washington Park. The distance will be five and one-half furlongs. Two-year-olds will be asked to. travel six furlongs for the first time this year in the opening race. The event is fashioned for maidens and is. scheduled to bring out a field of eleven. Other races are at the six-furlong, seven-furlong, mile and a sixteenth and mile and one-eighth distance.
