BRUNO PAGL1AI Announced plans for a season of 102 days at Mexico City. Mexico City Meeting To Open October 12 Season of 102 Days Planned At Hipodromo de Las Americas MEXICO CITY, Mexico, June 28. The Hipodromo de las Americas will inaugurate its third racing season on Thursday, October 12, and continue for a period of 102 racing days, Bruno Pagliai, president and general manager, announced here today. Approximately ,000,000 in U. S. currency will be distributed to horsemen in stakes and purses, Pagliai added. The selection of the October 12 date was chosen because it is a national holiday in Mexico, known as the "Fiesta de la Raza" or "Day of the Races" which corresponds to the American Columbus Day. "The success of our first two meetings," said Pagliai," proved beyond a doubt that racing has come to stay in Mexico. The Mexican public responded in a manner which was most gratifying, r and the support provided by American horsemen gives us the courage to go ahead each season with a more pretentious program of racing. It affords my organization great satisfaction to announce that a sum of approximately one million dollars will be disbursed to horsemen in overnight races and stakes during the 1944-45 season." The daily program will consist of nine races to include a Daily Double of the second and third events and a ninth-race Quinella. The minimum purse has been increased to 00 or 3,880 pesos, and will graduate in value to the 125,000 pesos added approximately 6,000 in U. S. currency Handicap de las Americas which the Hipodromo intends to make the great international race of the future.
