. HUGH DUFFORD Trainer of Come-now, winner of the Woodland Purse at Suffolk Downs. Comenow Sets Sights For Yankee Handicap Wins Woodland Purse at Suffolk From Cavatorta in Fast Time EAST BOSTON, Mass., June 28. Making his first start oh the Suffolk Downs track, Phillip Godfreys Comenow projected himself into the forthcoming Yankee Handicap picture today when he accounted for the feature Woodland Purse. The victor, a gelded son of Menow and Curiosity Shop, had the saddle services of Herbert Claggett, and reached the finish of the six furlongs a length and a half before Mrs. W. W. Adams Cavatorta, who was two lengths on Miss Ruth Daniels Onecbill. Under the conditions of the Woodland, Comenow was required to shoulder 120 pounds, four less than that carried by the topweighted Cavatorta. Taking command immediately, the Godfrey gelding stepped the distance over the fast track in 1:11. A crowd of 11,278 made Comenow second choice, and he returned his supporters .00 in the "tote" after winning his third race of the current year. Claggett handled Comenow alertly at the start, and had his mount away in front when starter Bob Frend dispatched the quintet in good alignment. Evelyn Rolls raced second in the backstretch, and at the initial quarter mile pole she was only a-half length off the ultimate victor. Cavatorta was next, a short margin before Lady Gremlin, and Onecbill was last on the inside. Turning for home, Comenow responded, when ridden briskly and, after he had disposed of Evelyn Rolls during the closing drive, continued gamely enough to hold Cavatorta safe.
