! , Eternal War, Useless May Rule Co Favorites in Great American , i l ; : : Rate I Will and Brabancon Highly in First Six-Furlong Juvenile Stake at Aqueduct AQUEDUCT, L. I., N. Y., June 18. The fifty-sixth running of the great American Stakes, 0,000 added fixture for twb-year-i olds, highlights tomorrows program at Aqueduct. A field of eight young hostages to fortune has been named overnight for the first six-furlong juvenile stake of the Eastern season, including Allen T. Simmons Eternal War, winner of the Youthful at Jamaica, and the Juvenile Stakes at Belmont, before he finished third back of un- beaten Jet Pilot and the vastly improved Useless in the Tremont. Colin MacLeods Useless will be back to face the Simmons colt again tomorrow, and receives four pounds, Eternal War having to carry top weight of 122 pounds. The others in the Great American are Walter P. Chryslers Brabancon, 118, and His Reckon, 108; Jay Paleys I Will, and Isadore Biebers Our Tommy, 113 each; Sidney S. Schuppers Miss Disco, 110, and Havahome Stables G. Ray, 108. While Eternal War and Useless will probably be almost equal favorites in the Great American, I Will and Brabancon also have races in the book that make them appear formidable. I Will won his last start on the Widener course at Belmont in 1:05, while Brabancon has also won on that straightaway in 1:04, beating Useless. The latter has improved immeasurably, Pindus Works for Brooklyn Useless just caught Eternal War in the final strides of the Tremont, after the Simmons colt had exhausted himself trying to run with Jet Pilot. The others seems somewhat-outclassed, though Our Tommy has consistency in his favor and G. Ray is on the upgrade. Early comers today were given a glimpse of a possible candidate for Saturdays 0,000 Brooklyn Handicap, when Eddie Hayward brought Pindus, whom he recently acquired from William Helis, on the track shortly after 12:30 and worked him a mile and a furlong in 1 :57. Though covered with sweat after the trial, the son of Chance Shot accomplished his task handily enough, with fractions of :38, :5335, 1:18 and the mile in 1:44. The final furlong in :13 was good for this track. He had about 125 pounds on his back and will carry only 105-in Saturdays stake, receiving 123 pounds from Stymie, the top weight. An exceedingly small field is in prospect for the Brooklyn despite its rich purse and traditional glamor. At the moment, there are only three likely candidates, W. L. Branns Gallorette, who finished between Pavot and Stymie in the Sussex Handicap last week-end, being expected to oppose Pindus and the Jacobs horse. The majority of the other 49 nominees, such as Fighting Step, First Fiddle, Reply Paid, Concordian. and Buzfuz have either shipped to other sectors or have gone wrong.
