Winn Is Back in Louisville; , Takes Up Fall Meeting Plans LOUISVILLE, Ky., June 18. Col. Matt J. Winn, pleased by the record-breaking score of his spring meeting at Churchill Downs and Lincoln Fields, is back in Louisville and while he prepares to celebrate his 85th birthday on June 30 he continues to take his daily chores with the zest and vigor of a man many years his junior. Colonel Winn at present is concentrating on the fall meeting at the Downs course, where he is reviving the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes a two-year-old fixture that established racing history since its first running in 1930. Colonel Winn is out to build the one mile race into one of the classic tests for juveniles. This years renewal, nominations for which closed last Saturday, will carry a purse of 5,000 added, while for the 1947 running" he believes the value will approach 0,000. The question of dates for local autumn racing is also on Winns agenda, and he may have something to announce on this matter before leaving for New York next month. Winn also announces that some progress has been made in the blue-printing of plans for Churchill Downs improvement program, which he hopes will allow upward of 150,000 Derby Day fans a maximum amount of comfort with a clear view of all the proceedings on the track for all.
