Scouting Drives to Fore in Detroit Opener FAIR GROUNDS, Detroit, Mich., June 18. Heavy rains that accompanied the disastrous tornado that took its toll in "the surrounding territory yesterday continued almost to post time today and left the track with a sharp chill in the air. The attendance dropped to one of the smallest figures of the meeting. The Billy Burtchell Claiming Purse in which a half dozen sprinters met at six furlongs under claiming tags ranging from 5,000 to 2,000, brought together the best field of the dismal afternoon. Scouting, racing for W. J. Susini, was a driving winner of the mile and a sixteenth gallop that opened the card. At home in the going, the son of Action raced closely lapped on Ibex in the early lead, took command while racing on the outside on the turn into the stretch then withstood a stiff stretch drive to hold MacDonald Stables fast-finishing Sea Tack by a neck.
