Detroit Is Deluged By Heavy Rainfall Mondays Tornado Did Not Strike Track; Crack Reward Goes in McCuan Handicap FAIR GROUNDS, Detroit, Mich., June 18. The devastating tornado which visited this area on Monday did not strike the Fair Grounds track proper. The closest damage was reported some five miles from the grounds and the major destruction on the American side of the Detroit River occurred at River Rouge about 12 miles from the race track. The most serious toll was taken in the Canadian towns of Sandwich, Ojibway and Tecumseh, suburbs of Windsor, Ontario, on the Canadian side of the river. The track and its environs, however, were deluged with heavy rains which have plagued the track for the past week. The mid-week card is topped by the Ed McCuan Handicap, a six-furlong dash named for the Tate trainer, and 10 fair sprinters have been named for this head-liner. Topweight of the band has been assigned to T. D. Buhls Crack Reward, who is asked to carry 111 pounds in a field conspicuous by low weights. The son of Reaping Reward has yet to show his best effort locally this year, but his two races against better than he is asked to meet tomorrow indicate that he is rounding to top form. U. R. Smiths Annies Reply will likely carry the bulk of public support on the strength of a corking second to Many Lands in the Cadillac Handicap recently, and a second in her previous outing to Rip Away. Proof Coil in Close Quarters George Krehbiels Golden Man will have an opportunity to make amends for his recent defeat when he was installed favorite. Under the feather of 102 pounds the son of Don Leon will find favor with the "off" track that is certain to prevail. Mrs. Ray Grundy will be represented by Ben Gray, who has accounted for a pair of successes at the meeting. Others in the field include E. D. Talberts One Only, Vincent Ciceros Royal Flush, J. L. Chesneys Royat, Mrs. Lottie Wolfs Romulus, Donna-Ray Stables recent winner, Bolo Tie, and J. Sullis Reason. The remainder of the program is composed of claiming races with the seventh carded over the about one mile of the turf course. It is altogether likely that this race will be transferred to the main course due to the condition of the track, in which event it will be decided at one mile and a sixteenth.
