Card Two Stakes At Delaware Park Mahout and Flash Burn Top Line-Ups for Diamond State And Christiana, Respectively DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., June 21. The Delaware Steeplechase and Race Association tomorrow presents a double stakes offering for its week-end patrons with the 2,500 Diamond State Stakes for three-year-olds being contested at a mile and a furlong, and juveniles dashing five and a half furlongs for a ,500 purse in the ninth running of the Christiana Stakes. While such prominent members of the age group as Assault, Lord Boswell and Natchez have declined the issue, the eight-horse field, headed by Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords Mahout, gives promise of supplying action aplenty. Named to oppose the Jeffords colt are Cedar Farms Lovemenow, Mrs. Dion K. Kerrs Flying Weather, Mrs. Edward Hinemans Blue Dream, King Ranches Flash Burn, Brandywine Stables Dirl, Greentree Stables School Tie and G. A. Lawsons Lovat. The Christiana field, while it lacks what can be called a stellar attraction, contains a well-matched band of youngsters, five of whom have been winners during the current meeting. The overnight lineup includes Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords Vacance, Brandywine Stables Wejack, Mrs. M. E. Whitneys Bullet Proof, Mrs. E. duPont Weirs Royal Governor, Mrs. Elmer Trumans Send Off, Cedar Farms Mityme, Sylvester W. Labrot, Jr.s, Repand and Christopher T. Chenerys Rappahannock. Whites Surprise Moye Trainer Oscar White made a move rather surprising to many when he failed to name Natchez, recent winner of the Kent Handicap here and generally regarded as the best three-year-old in his barn. However, Wahout is a quite capable performer and probably will carry the bulk of the public support. While he has been lightly campaigned this season, starting only three times, he has more than demonstrated his class. Mahouts most recent race, in which he was a well-beaten seventh behind Assault in the Belmont Stakes, did not show his true, capabilities, for just previous to that he had come from far back to down Lord Boswell and others in accounting for the Peter Pan Handicap. In his only other 1946 outing, the Jeffords colorbearer was the winner of an overnight sprint race in Maryland. Jockey Johnny Longden is due in from the West Coast to handle Mahout and it is safe to predict that his presence in the saddle will lend a bit more confidence to the backers of Mahout. While Mahout is topweight under 119 pounds, he will be asked to concede no more than five pounds to any of his competitors. With steady rains throughout the past week turning the track into a sea of mud, supporters of Mr. and Mrs. John Bromleys Lovemenow weakened somewhat on their pride and joy. While he has performed creditably over a fast track, finishing second to Natchez in the Kent Handicap, the Menow colt has shown a distinct dislike for the "off" going. Much interest will center upon Flash Burn, representative of Robert J. Klebergs King Ranch, who has been completely overshadowed by the "Triple Crown" win-. Vier, Assault. However, it can not be disregarded that Flash Burn, a homebred son of Brazado, has won four races in seven starts this season and was third on the other three occasions. Just how well, regarded he is for this affair was emphasized when stable connections stated that contract rider, Warren Mehrtens, will be here for the saddle work.
