The Clark, which, along with the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks, is one of the three oldest stakes on the Churchill Downs agenda, probably will be winessed by a record throng, as thoroughbred enthusiasts from far and wide already have converged on the Falls City to see Saturdays 1947 renewal of the Kentucky Derby. Warren Wrights Calumet Farm will try for its fourth victory in the Clark Handicap and the establishments Pot o Luck, a five-year-old son of Chance Play and Potheen, is the top weight under 124 pounds. The Wright colors were carried successfully in the 1937, 1942 and 1946 runnings of the Clark by Count Morse, Whirlaway and Hail Victory, respectively. Pot o Luck was shipped to Kentucky this spring after a rather brilliant campaign in Florida, and the Calumet homebred recently drove to a game triumph in Keenelands Ben Ali Handicap. Away very slowly in the Lexington stake, Pot o Luck carried his 121 -pound burden to the end of that one mile and one-sixteenth event a scant nose before Mrs. John L. Letelliers Jock S. L., who shouldered 112 pounds. Jockey Douglas Dodson will handle Pot o Luck. Brooks on Letellier Colorbearer Jack S. L. is to renew his duel with Pot o Luck in the Clark, and the New Orleans invader has been assigned 116 pounds for the Downs middle -distance feature. Jack S. L. gave a splendid account of himself at Keeneland and, during his winter campaign at the Fair Grounds, he whipped a good field in the Lecompte Handicap. Steve Brooks, who rode Jack S. L. in many major engagements, is to be at the reins on the Letellier star in the Clark. Eternal Reward, Augustus and Nahms crack stakes performer, gets in the Clark with 122 pounds and he is rated dangerous under that burden. Completing the probable starting field for the Clark are David Fergusons Bob Murphy, 110 pounds, and James C Stones Syls Bobby, 105 pounds. Bob Murphy was decisively beaten in the Ben Ali while Syls | Bobby is to make his second start of the year.
