Seven to Contest Woodlawn Purse Late Thread, Dots Risk, Gigolbury and Sand Storm In Sportsmans Main Event SPORTSMANS PARK, Cicero, HI., April 30. — The Woodlawn Purse, an allowance purse for four-year-olds and older horses tops an interesting card at this course tomorrow. The headliner is a gallop of a mile and a sixteenth and seven good middle distance runners have been named to contest for the ,500 prize. In the five-furlong third race, titled the Hyde Park, two-year-olds will be seen in competition for the first time this season in this area. In the Woodlawn the field appears to be particularly evenly balanced. Mrs. J. L. Oglesby, of Pawhuska, Okla., has named Late Thread, who gets into the race under the favorable impost of 107 pounds. The daughter of Pilate gave evidence that she was nearing peak form when she turned in a smashing third in the Oaklawn Handicap at Hot Springs. That was a mile and a sixteenth test also, and Late Thread finished with a bold rush that left the impression that she would be a formidable contender here with a little more early speed. Stiff competition can be expected from Dots Risk, who will represent Kirkpatrick and Turner. This Wise Counsellor filly finished fifth in the Inaugural Handicap here on Saturday, but she was not far in the wake of the winner in a bang-up finish. That was a seven-furlong test and Dots Risk was closing ground quickly at the end and may be better suited at the additional distance of the Woodlawn. She is a consistent sort, having accounted for a race at Oaklawn Park, Won at Hialeah Gigolbury will represent the H. and S. Stable and comes recommended by a clever victory at Hialeah Park at one mile and three-sixteenths. The son of Glastonbury was able to get to the front in the stretch of that test and held on to suggest that the mile and a sixteenth of the Woodlawn would suit him. Under the conditions of the race, Gigolbury is compelled to carry top weight of 117 pounds. Mrs. Phil Leons silks will be carried by Sand Storm. The daughter of Shifting Sands H. showed little in the Berwyn Purse on opening day here, but may have needed that race to perfect her conditions. She made but one start during the winter but was winner of two races over this course last fall to attest her fondness for this racing strip. Ben Fogelsons Credentials could do no better than fourth the other day over this track when racing six and one-half furlongs under a ,500 claiming tag. The son of Identify was a smashing winner at one mile and a sixteenth in heavy going at Oaklawn Park, and there is a chance that he will have a track that is something worse than fast in the Woodlawn. L. O. Handleys Four Tens was beaten only about twoJ lengths when finishing sixth on Monday at six and one -half furlongs. He has shown a fondness for a longer route, winning two distance races at the Fair Grounds during his winter campaign. A peak performance and good racing fortune would find the son of Chic-straw earning some part of this purse. The field is completed by J. P. Kamp-meyers Kamps Reward, but a score from this one w ;uld occasion some surprise.
