Detroit to Follow Usual Purse Distribution Plan Regular Feature Races Range in Value From ,500 to 0,000 FAIR, GROUNDS, Detroit, Mich., May 20. Continuing the successful policy of an equitable purse distribution to representatives of all better class horses quartered on the grounds rather than extremely large prizes to a few, the Detroit Racing Asso-ciation will again follow the satisfactory plan of offering a 0,000 handicap on each Saturday and holiday during the 73-day meeting that starts Saturday, May 24 and continues to August 16. These features cater to every age classification and are at varying distances. In addition to the headliners, each Saturday and holiday program will contain a ,000 supporting handicap for horses in different classifications and at a different distance from the feature, thus giving opportunity for all better horses on the grounds to compete for worthwhile prizes over the distance deemed most suitable to them. The special features include races over the popular turf course at one mile. In addition to the Saturday and holiday specials, racing secretary Charles F. Henry has liberally interspersed his week-day programs with feature races of ,000 and ,500 value. Twilight racing at the Motor City course has been abandoned and the fields will be dispatched daily at 2:15 p. m. With the earlier post time the association has also discontinued the practice of paying awards to grooms and exercise riders as this bonus was instituted to recompense those workers for the additional time spent at their duties because of twilight racing. There will be, however, the trainers and jockeys prizes each 10 days of the meeting. These are awarded on the point system for firsts, seconds and thirds registered by trainers and jockeys and are valued at 00 first, 00 second, and 00 third for each profession. There are additional awards to jockeys for special feats of saddle artistry.
