Cherry Quest Registers Mild Upset in Suffolk Downs Race SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., May 20. The local crop of better three-year-old sprinters, who have been taking turns whipping each other during the season, produced another mild surprise here this afternoon when the Green Hill Stables Cherry Quest drove to a smart triumph in the Wigwam Purse, feature of a program that was witnessed by a crowd of 14,076. Beaten by Fleet West and Herbie G. in previous efforts, Cherry Quest found herself treading lightly with a shift of weights in her favor and finishing with a determined rush, she was up in time to down Herbie G., while Teddy Tarn beat Fleet West for the show end of the purse. The three-year-old daughter of Amphitheatre Cherry Sauce registered 1:12 for the six furlongs and the veteran reinsman, George McMullen, a product of Fall River, Mass., turned in one of his better rides to pass under the line three-quarters of a length in front. Unable to keep pace with Fleet West and the others, Cherry Quest dropped back steadily in the run down the backstretch, but on the turn she settled into stride and moved quickly. She ran up a blind alley, however, when an opening on the rail abruptly closed and was forced to take up sharply. McMullen allowed her to settle and then swung to the outside, but when it was seen that pursuit of the path would cost him more ground than he could afford, he slipped between horses and that hove probably was the main reason for victory.
