Mayer Files Suit to Recover ,162 in Property Taxes LOS ANGELES, Calif., May 20. L. B. Mayer, prominent California owner and breeder, who is in the process of liquidating his extensive turf holdings, yesterday filed suit in Superior Court to recover ,162 in 1946 property taxes he paid under protest to the Los Angeles County assessor on 23 race horses. In the suit, Mayer alleged that he maintained his stock farm in Riverside County, which is the permanent home of the horses. He further claimed he had paid Riverside County the taxes when Los Angeles County assessed him for the same item. The misunderstanding arose when the Mayer horses were at Santa Anita Park preparing for the winter racing at that oval.
