T. P. MORGAN His Discovery gelding, Thwarted, chalked up his fifth straight victory in yesterdays Voter Purse at Belmont Park. Thwarted Prevails In Spirited Finish Noses Out Half After for Eighth Win in Nine Starts; Mahout Again Runs Out BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., May 23. T. P. Morgans Thwarted won his eighth race in his last nine starts when he took the featured Voter Purse at Belmont Park today, and he was not the favorite. That honor went to Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords Mahout, who ran out just as he did in the Lawrance Realization, for which he was the favorite last year, the only difference being this time that Mahout spotted a gap near the far turn, while in the Realization he ducked out at the clubhouse turn. Thwarted just got up in the final stride to beat George D.Wideners Half After by the scantiest of noses. Harry LaMontagnes Larky Day, running a much-improved race, was a length and a half back in third place and eight lengths before Jayess Stables Cencerro. Mahout also finished, eventually. Thwarted paid .80 as second choice and ran the mile and a sixteenth in 1 :45 over a track that was "good" but dead. Basil James, who had scored with Gaelic Gift in the fourth race, was in the saddle. Gallorette in Unimpressive Trial A crowd of 24,237 turned out in perfect weather, one of the very few pleasant days of the entire season. Immediately after the Voter, W. L. Branns Gallorette came on the track with Job Dean Jessop in the saddle, worked an unimpressive mile and a furlong in 1:52. While Jessop was scrubbing through the final quarter, an unidentified pacemaker was being pulled up, but the filly had all she could do to get to the front after they passed the stands. Gallorette has never been a particularly good work horse, however, and may show to better advantage in the Suburban, for which she is being prepped. Conn McCreary, reversing his customary tactics, hustled Half After to the front in the Voter, with Thwarted in closest pursuit followed by Cencerro, Larky Day and Mahout. As the field swept down the far side, Half After continued to lead Thwarted, while Larky Day was close at hand along the inside rail and appeared to dislike the going as well as the close quarters. Half After came into the stretch a length in front and running strongly but ducked for the inside rail as Thwarted challenged on the outside, succumbing to the Discovery gelding in the final stride after a game struggle. Larky Day was taken to the outside at the top of the final bend and finished well, while Cencerro tired badly. Mahout tossed off all his chances in his efforts to get away from the race track. Some patrons wish his endeavor had been successful and permanent.
