Lextown Lextown Annexes Annexes Peabody; Peabody; Shy Shy Guy Guy Victor Victor at at Detroit Detroit Staves Off Saint Nicholas Bid to Gain Lincoln Success Lexbrook Colt Sets Own Pace In Holiday Stake, Scoring by Half Length Before 38,640 WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood, 111., May 30. Last summer during the height of the Illinois racing season, a large number of patrons were of the opinion that Lextown, the flashy colt owned by M. A. Kerns Lexbrook Stable, was destined to become a topnotch thoroughbred. Shortly thereafter the youngster put up a couple of poor efforts, but today he finally came through by capturing the twenty-first running of the 5,000 Peabody Memorial. Jack Richard had the bay son of Little-town Lady Rosamond on top shortly after the start and there he remained. Through the stretch he was placed under hard pressure but had enough left to stave off Saint Nicholas belated bid, while Ky. Colonel was third in the small field of seven. Lextown raced the mile and one-eighth in 1:50 with 121 pounds up. This was two full seconds away from the course record held by Armed, who established the mark with 130 on his back. J. C. After a long series of cold, dreary afternoons during the current meeting, general manager Peter J.
