DON PEPPINO, slow to break, worked his way up on the rail and disposed of the leaders in the closing stages. ONE ATOM, between horses while well placed on .the turn, was taken to the outside for the drive and just missed. RAIDING STAR saved ground while prominent, moved up between horses to be on near even terms for the lead, but was not good enough. HOUR AL weakened in the closing furlong. ATOMIC ENERGY, away fast, took command and came to the inside on the turn, then weakened in the final stages. LONGHORN lost ground. SIDNEY SUE was outrun. ESS KAY showed nothing. IRON DON quit. SISTER BRY, away fast, lacked speed to retain command in the backstretch, gained the lead when AVOCA MESSAGE quit and outgamed PEACEFUL GENIE. The latter was forced to lose considerable ground while with the leaders, made a bold bid in the stretch and faltered. TOOTSIE McCABE, eased back on the rail going into the turn, was sent up between horses when ready for the drive and finished well. ROCKY SIR, slow to begin, forged through the rail in the drive and finished strongly. ELAINE 0. had no excuse. AVOCA MESSAGE quit badly in the closing quarter mile. BURNT ALMOND was through before" five furlongs. FANA G. flashed speed and quit. JUST FOR LUCK refused to break. HARD WAR, never far back while between horses, was taken to the outside for the drive when clear, displaced JESSIES BEAU and drew clear. The latter, a sharp factor from the break, went between the leaders to obtain command, showed a good effort, but could not resist the winner. MARBACKA lacked room on the rail in the opening stages, worked his way up between horses in the drive, and finished willingly. PETRIFIED weakened in the drive. WAR PAGE was forced wide coming out of the turn. ESPIRITU had no mishap. VALDINA INFANT lacked room. RIPPLING SAND lost ground most of the way. NEVER TELL tired. BLACK CAT was outrun. DANSEUSE saved ground oh the turn, was taken to the outside for the drive and finished strongly. BOBS ACE had no excuse. INDIAN GOLD had no mishap. NEVER STOP raced wide most of the way. The latter sprinted into a clear lead quickly and drew out on the turn, then gave way near the end. ZOOM was bothered slightly midway of the drive and closed resolutely. LEXTOWN was hustled into a cleat lead, came to the inside before reaching the first turn, was rated along until straightened for the drive and just lasted over SAINT NICHOLAS. The latter, unhurried in the opening half mile, moved up steadily when called upon, was taken very wide coming out of the turn to make his bid for the drive and, closing strongly, just missed. KY. COLONEL saved ground early while closest to the pace, moved up in midstretch to be lapped on the winner, but was not good enough. MR. SMUG, allowed to drop back and settle into stride early, moved up on the rail in the drive and finished stoutly. WHIRLING DOUGH moved up on the rail coming out of the far turn to be a sharp contender and hung. PROVOCATIVE went between horses on the far turn, challenged mildly and gave way.
