HANDLE saved ground while holding a narrow advantage, then drew clear after giving way briefly at the furlong pole. ASTRODOME vied for the lead from the start, attained a slight lead briefly and weakened. CRYSTAL PASS, away alertly but unable to keep up, was forced to pick way between horses and closed full.of run. DESERT RAID showed speed throughout and turned in a good effort. ORTHOPEDIC raced forwardly and swerved badly through the stretch. SINGING SWORD turned in a good effort after being practically eliminated at the start. DREAM AMERICA broke tardily. BLENRAB was outrun. I GO BY lost rider in the vicinity of the seven-sixteenths pole. GAUNTLET, allowed to settle into stride, improved his position between horses along the backstretch, then went to the outside to wear down BROWNTINT and hold CAB SIR safe. The latter was taken up when caught in close quarters along the inside leaving the half-mile grounds, responded well when settled down and was getting to the top one. BROWNTINT wrested command on the final turn and tired. BIG T. 0. failed to respond and came out of the race lame. BALLIOL showed nothing. TEMERU was outrun. AIROLO set the pace and quit to a walk in the final sixteenth. CALL YOU broke alertly and showed good early speed. ISLE OF MIST could not keep up. GOLDJINTOWN broke in a tangle. BLEWSO quit. WHY CRY closed full of run in a good effort. DRY caught only tired horses in the late stages. MINNEAPOLIS flattened out after racing in close attendance to the pace.
