Carl Scarborough Qualifies For 500-Miler With 136.14 INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., May 19 UP.— Carl Scarborough, 36, Clarkston, Mich., a rookie at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, sped around the racing oval at the second fastest speed in its history today to qualify for the 500-mile Memorial Day race. Scarborough sent the timing devices spinning with an average speed for four laps of 136.14 miles per hour. That was second in history only to Duke Nalon, who just a week ago average 136.498. Scarboroughs fastest lap was at 137:028. It also was the second best ever recorded. Nalon set a new mark of 137.049 last week.
