OBSTINATE SI raced .SHAFFIE Into defeat to assume a clear lead nearing the furlong marker and maintained his advantage thereafter under brisk- urging. SHAFFIE gave way to the winner after a half mile, then held on willingly enough to prevail over MERRY ZAC. The latter closed with a belated burst of speed and probably would prefer a longer distance. LANDS END rallied too late to seriously endanqer the leaders. SOME BID, fastest to begin, was unable to keep up. KILAYR raced wide. RAFFLE HOUSE caught tiring horses. CLIMBER tired. ENCHANTED EVE, slow to reach best stride, responded readily when shaken for the stretch run and, under clever handling, was up jn the concluding strides to outfinish HADRAINI. The latter held a clear lead entering the stretch, but was unable to be persevered with when her" rider lost his right stirrup iron during the late stages. - BUSY FLOW finished with good courage in a sharp effort. BROWN LLAMA tired when called upon for her" best effort. GEE-LIGHT lacked a convincing rally. I FROO made up some ground during the late stages. WONDROUS W|SE was through early. HOP SCOTCH gave way after three furlongs. MISS MUFFET quit MARCIL was never a threat. EYE CATCHER made the pace to the stretch under steady rating and held sway thereafter when ridden out CHIPPEWA CHIEF moved up menacingly on the outside nearing the furlong marker, was unable to reach the leader, but easily was best of the others. EXCELSIS closed resolutely on the outside and appears ready for a creditable route effort. SKY MUSIC was unable to keep up. EASY TRADE had no apparent mishap. MONTES ACE raced wide. SCREEMIN JACK, prominent from - the beginning, responded readily when set down for the drive and was up in the final strides to prevail over DEAL ME IN. The latter, guided to the inside for the stretch run, reached the lead between calls, but failed to withstand the winner. FREEDOM LIGHT gave way to DEAL ME IN midway of the final furlong after displaying high speed from the beginning. HONEST INJUN closed a gap. COMMANDMANT lacked a rally. BOLD FOX came out for the drive, but was not good enough. TRIM BULL was always between horses. NEB JR. quit BULL FORD was never dangerous. BESEECH was among the victims of a poor start. The latter drifted out on the near turn, responded gamely when shaken up for the ultimate test and closed resolutely. WELL WORTH IT began tardily, worked her way forward to1 obtain a contending position when straightened for the drive, then faltered. THE GHIZEH was unable to 1 eep ud.
