Silver Faith, Trotting Derby Hope, To Start Recent Arrival From West Coast Goes in Maywood Two-Dash Event MAYWOOD PARK, Maywood, HI., May 22. — Silver Faith, one of the foremost con- tenders for the 0,000 Maywood Trotting Derby June 6, will make his Maywood bow Friday night. Silver Faith will join a field I of other ,Derby candidates in the sixth and ninth races, both at one mile, for a purse of ,500. Trainer-driver Buck Minniear brought Silver Faith to Maywood early this week after opening the season at Santa Anita. The seven-year-old stake trotter, owned by Dr. H. B. Buterbaugh of Indiana, Pa., captured 22 of 31 starts in 1951, finishing out of the money only six times. Overnight choice in the field is Clipper Hanover, owned by A. D. Knapp of Jackson, Mich. Considered a serious Derby threat, Clipper Hanover has been beaten only once in four Maywood starts. Also goLig are Johnny Brown, Malcolm, Moses, Buckie B„ and Lomita Marge. All but Lomita Marge are eligible for the Derby. Silver Faiths debut overshadows the evenings stake event, the ,000 A. G. Ward Trot which will be decided in the fifth and eighth races, both at one mile. Eleven trotters have been named for the stake, which honors an Illinois harness racing pioneer from Bloomington. Spud Hart, who opened the 1952 campaign by sweeping a Maywood stake, will try to repeat that performance in the Ward Trot. The seven-year-old Spud Hanover gelding came from behind twice to win both dashes of the recent ,000 Gold Coast Trot. Chief competition is expected from Colby White, owned by Jack Cameron and Phil Starck of Chicago. This Colby Hanover gelding has raced only once this year after compiling a brilliant record of 15 victories in 25 starts as a four-year-old in 1951. Both Spud Hart, owned by Erwin Dygert of Aurora, and Colby White are Trotting Derby nominees. Also going are Mr. Spud, Hal Tass, Miss Pemberton, Maiden Song, Delhi Lady, Bishop, Gertie Gallon, Fay Scott, and Far-cry.
