CONNORS CORNER By Chuck1 Connors BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., May 22. — Saturday is Oaks Day and the distaff side of the thoroughbred family will rule as "Queens of the May" for that afternoon. The field promises to be somewhat larger than anticipated, for, when word was received that Calumet Farms Real Delight was headed this way for the event, everyone took it for granted that opposition would dwindle to a minimum. However, such is not the case. The" men who train the three-year-old misses have for some time set their sights for this race and, come rain, winds and high water, they intend to start. The paddock gang revealed enthusiasm for the Calumet filly, and no doubt she will be a pronounced favorite. The cynics, admit that she is a nice piece of racing property, but in the next breath blurt out that "Dont forget they beat Man o War once." The chances are a million to one that that slogan will never be forgotten by the present generation and generations to come. AAA While the fillies hold the limelight this weeki the Suburban on Memorial Day is not overlooked by any means. The weights are due on Saturday and the amateur handicappers revised their figures following the downfall of Battlefield" in the Metropolitan and the success of Mameluke. Nevertheless, they are still trying to outguess Jack Campbell and -some of the weight assignments proffered by the "amateurs" are within reason. Well, the boys can compare their judgement against the veteran on Saturday evening and, as for * the results, you can have them or get a new and bigger trash can. Spartan Valor is due here sometime next week from New Jersey. He will be vanned over by the little round man, Frank Catrone, aided and abetted by stable manager Jack Barshak, and both hope that Bill Helis, Jr., will be oa hand to watch his pride and joy in the big one. ► Queens of the May Await Oaks Sub Fleet Arrival From Pimlico Whitakers Visiting at Belmont McManus Saves Scurlocks Life Will Collins, the traveling ambassador of racing, sent on a few pieces of art from Reno, Nev., to some of the boys in the press coop.
