HELLO PUDGY made the pace on the outside, drew clear when put to punishment and sulked when tiring in the late stages. ECAUDOR pressed the pace on the rail, could not match strides in the stretch, but made up ground when the top one weakened nearing the end. OUR JESTER was slow to start, raced wide and should improve off the effort. BALAN lacked speed, closed strongly between horses and should go better when sent a longer distance. BIG TIME tired. TRINITY PLACE stumbled slightly at the start, gained a narrow advantage after a furlong, drew out in the stretch and maintained a safe margin under urging. INCHCAPELLA was always well placed and closed with good courage. THISTLE JAY weakened in the drive LADY JAC0P0 broke in a tangle, went up between horses under brisk handling and gave way in the final quarter mile. PSYCHIC DREAM ran forwardly placed for five furlongs and tired. YOUNG RICKEY showed nothing. Overweight— Thistle Jay, 1 pound; Young Rickey, 2; Eyeful Star, 1. Lady Jacopo claimed by I. Bieber. EPERON reached command just after the second hurdle and was never seriously threatened thereafter although winning fully extended. SALEMAKER, allowed to drop back under restraint, responded nicely when punished and outgamed SONATINE for the place. The latter was within striking distance from the outset and lacked a rally. PAINTED SHIP tired. BLUE PLATE quit after racing forwardly placed for seven fences, as did DANS CHANCE. UNCLE DON hurdled poorly when tiring. Overweight— Uncle Don, 3 pounds. FOURTH RACE 6 FURLONGS. PENNANT DAY lacked speed to remain forwardly placed, came out when set down for the drive and wore down the leaders. CRYSTAL BOOT was reserved while in a good position, moved up and gained command between calls nearing the end and just failed. GALLOPING GUS broke sluggishly, went up gradually to engage the leaders, took command between calls in the concluding furlong and hung. ERASER faltered in the drive after setting the pace. TRUE PATTERN vied for the lead on the rail, shook off NIMBLE FOX in midstretch, then was joined by TRICK PILOT and held on to a narrow advantage until .the wire. The latter saved ground while forwardly placed, found roam on the rail to challenge boldly in the stretch and missed in a good effort. RAES REWARD, reserved early, closed with a belated rush. DO REPORT, rated along early, held on fairly well for the drive. CONGO KING had no excuse. RISQUE ROGUE was outrun. NIMBLE FOX had speed for a half mile and gave way. THE MAST was permitted to race slightly wide while with the first flight from the outset, went through on the inside to displace OEDIPUS and won under hard punishment. The latter took command when PROCEED weakened after the eighth jump, drifted out slightly in the late stages when tiring and appeared short of a top effort. NAVY GUN moved between horses to become a sharper factor, landed awkwardly at the fourteenth jump and dropped back, then closed resolutely when recovering for the finish run. JAM swerved badly nearing the final jump and lacked a rally. HAMPTON ROADS made a bad landing at the sixth obstacle and jumped haphazardly over most of the obstacles thereafter. T0QU*ILA was on the rail while alternating for command, drew clear when punished and won with something left. DOCEDOE was forced to race wide much of the way, made a determined bid leaving the turn and faltered. DAME MANGONEO had no mishap. ADA C. went by tired horses. MIRTHFUL had speed for six furlongs and quit. KENO made a mild bid on the turn and quit. SPERANZO quit. ADRIUTHA came out of the race lame.
