Fairmount Officials Hope To Re-Open i n Two Weeks Expect Debris From Hurricane Will Be Cleared by Week-End FAIRMOUNT PARK, Collinsville, HI., June 11. — After surveying the severe damage that resulted from a hurricane that tore the roof off the Fairmount Park grandstand and wrecked the mutuel plant, the management under the guidance of i secretary-treasurer Ray C. Bennigsen has high hopes that they will be able to resume j racing in about two weeks, which would be about June 27. Large crews are working around the clock to clear away the debris so that the real extent of the storms damage can be estimated. Mt this time there are several contractors standing by to put their men to work at the earliest possible moment. It is thought that, by the way the work is progressing, that the place will be cleaned up by the end of the week. The roof itself was more or less blown clean and it will not be too difficult to replace it. The main damage is to the mutuel plant, which was practically crushed, damage to the "tote" is thought to be minor. Horsemen are standing by and, for the most part, will remain here for the reopening. At this time there are over 1,000 head on the grounds. The property damage was covered by insurance and the management is also covered by business stoppage insurance, so it is certain that everything possible will be done to get the plant back in operation. The management will make a definite statement as to the exact date that racing will resume in a day or so.
