, i , , I 1 I j , j , White Sox Outbid Ten Teams For Young Hurling Prospect ERIE, Pa., June 11 UP.— The Chicago White Sox outbid 10 other major league teams today for the services of Sammy Williams, 19-year-old Erie pitching sensation. - It was reported the White Sox paid the righthander a 0,000 bonus to sign. Williams gained a reputation as a strikeout artist while pitching in high school and sandlot competition. Recent! T, with several major league scouts looking on, he pitched a one-hit game and struck out 14 batters. The six-foot-three pitcher weighs 162 pounds and resembles Ewell Blackwell in appearance and action. Williams was assigned to Superior, Wis., entry in the Class C Northern League and will be reassigned to the Wisconsin Rapid team in the Class D Wisconsin state league.
