— Frederick Van Lennep, Master of Castleton Farm, Acquires All Capital Stock in Wolverine Raceway DETROIT, Mich, June 11. — Frederick Van Lennep, of Detroit, announced today that he had completed arrangements to purchase the entire capital stock of the Wolverine Raceway, which conducts its harness meeting at Michigan Racing Associations Detroit race course. Van Lennep, associated with standard -bred horses as thejmaster of Castleton Farm, Lexington, Ky., bought out eastern interests. He also said that negotiations included the purchase of all preferred and common stock of the Michigan Racing Association, which had been owned by the Yonkers Trotting Association, Inc., and the Old Country Trotting Association, Inc. It was reported that William Cane, president of the Wolverine Raceway, will be in Detroit late today to complete the deal, which involves a figure approaching the million dollar mark, with 80,000 actually being the purchase price of the Wolverine and M. R. A. stock. Al Weil, general manager of Wolverine Raceway for the last two years, will return to New York and assume duty at Roosevelt Raceway. Van Lennep has been connected with the advertising business and Newsweek magazine and he is the husband of Mrs. Frances Dodge Johnson Van Lennep, automobile fortune heiress. Although Van Lennep will take over active management of the Wolverine track, there will be no changes in the personnel of the Michigan Racing Association operation. The Wolverine Raceway will open its 1952 season on August 11 and run for 54 nights.
