r s s t i t r 1 I a t F a i ■ I Barred Jockey Testifies Offer Made to Him to Fix Race WELLAND, Ont., June 11.— A jockey who has been barred for life from Canadian race tracks testified today that sportsman Harry Swartz offered him 00 to fix a race at the Fort Erie track. Jockey Phil Marchese said he refused the bribe. His testimony was the first in the Toronto sportsmans trial on charges of conspiracy to defraud the public to link him directly with bribing of jockeys. Marchese said that after he refused 00 to "pull" his mount Foxhill, Swartz said, "Okay, boy, Ill make it 00." The jockey said he refused and rode Foxhill to a win. He admitted that later he took a bribe to pull another mount, Bill Keefe, in a race won by a 35 to 1 shot, Tab Wales. Two other jockeys gave dates and figures I to back up charges that Swartz or his partner paid them for fixing races. J
