4 i Delaware Cards Tom Roby Chase Eleven Entered in Event Named for Rider Bedridden 10 Years as Result of Spill By PALMER HEAGERTY Staff Correspondent DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del.. June 11. — The 0,000 added Tom Roby Steeplechase Stakes, honoring the rider who has been bedridden in Mary Immaculate Hos-, pital. Jamaica, N. Y., since being involved in a spill a decade ago, has its sixth running tomorrow afternoon as Delaware Parks featured offering. If the overnight field of 11 remains intact, the winning owner will take down a net purse of 0,-000 at the completion of the about two miles event. Unlike the majority of stakes events in this country, the Roby carries a trophy to be presented the winning jockey, rather than the winning owner. The trophy is presented by Bayard Sharp, a member of Delaware Parks board of directors, who owned Knights Quest, the horse from which Roby fell. The winning jockey gains possession of the cup for one year, or until the next running of the Roby. Sharp also offers a replica of the cup to become the permanent possession of the successful jockey. Named for the 15-jump test are the following: Brookmeade Stables Flaming Comet, Mrs. E. duPont Weirs Golden Furlong and Master Mariner, Mrs. S. C. Clark, Jr.s Extra Points and Rokeby Stables Gentle Star, who race coupled; E. B. Schleys Fracas and John M. Schiff s Mon-tadet. another entry; Courtney Burtons Hunting Fox, C. Mahlon Klines Spleen, Bayard Sharps Teddy Briar and M. B. Metcalfs Beaupre. Belmont Effort Good Flaming Comet is without a victory in four starts this season, but the six-year-old gelding turned in a corking effort in his recent Belmont appearance, being beaten slightly more than a length while second to Hot. He is reported to favor the local course, which is quite an advantage in a race of this type. Trainer Jim Ryan will have strong representation in the Roby with Golden Furlong and Master Mariner as his charges. Golden Furlong has displayed good form this season, winning one of three starts and finishing second behind Fracas in the Belmont Park version of the Spring Maiden. Master Mariner also boasts a one-for-three record. Fracas, as mentioned above, was the winner of the Belmont Spring Maiden, then was elevated a bit and was beaten more than 20 lengths by The Mast in the Meadow Brook Handicap. His stablemate, Montadet, is without a victory in four starts, but was a good second behind Hunting Fox last time postward. Extra Points and Gentle Star also make up a formidable tandem. Extra Points won his last over ,000 claimers, while Gentle Star was a winner at Middleburg prior to meeting defeat at Belmont. Spleen, Teddy Briar and Beaupre shape up as the outsiders in the Roby. The Governor Elbert N. Carvel Purse, a six-furlong sprint for three-year-old fillies, includes nine Delaware Oaks eli-gibles in its field of 15 fleet lassies. The Oaks prospects are Faberose, Place Card, Hellespont. Easterling, Lady Carolina, Gun Moll. Hummy, Big Mo and Jeannie C. Others in the Carvel are Blue Josie, Banta, Devilkin. Adamantine, Ladslove and Changeling.
