Sophomores in Spotlight At River Downs Today Darling Dora Looms as Favorite Over Meyers Pride, Peace Date RIVER DOWNS, Cincinnati, Ohio, June 8. — The steady rains of yesterday and last ;night has the track in a decidedly "off" condition. In view of this- several of the fields for Thursday, the twelfth day of this 44-day meeting, are a bit smaller than is usual. There is little doubt, however, that the competition in each of the contests will be keen with the program as varied as possible in view of the footing for the running of the races. Sophomores hold the spotlight in the seventh and feature affair. Titled the Maketewah Country Club, the staging is six furlongs and eight have accepted the allowance conditions to_vie for a portion of the ,800 purse. Darling Dora, who now inns in the interest of Doug Davis, Jr., and the Estate of P. Youkilis, made the first outing oyer this course an impressive one. The Burg-El-Arab filly displayed a wealth of eaily foot and at the eighth pole had a four-length advantage on her field. Mrs. C. Blair and J. C. Wormsers Jessie Foray was the ultimate winner with Darling Dora second and the time for the six panels was 1:15% over a slow race track. From all present indications the strip will still be off tomorrow and she could be the one to beat. C. Gabbards Meyers Pride has also had an outing over this course. In the en- denvor, the Swiv gelding was fourth to E. A. Bischoffs Pvt. Sam. one of the two-time winners of the meeting; J. Zwerners Gar-roways Gal. and L. B. Combs Aroma. In that event jockey D. Foley ran into some bad racing luck while in behind a wall ol horses in the stretch turn then after gaining a favorable position did not regain stride quickly enough. He, too, could be a formidable foe among those. Others for this affair Include II. May-briers High View Don, the Ccllna Stables Chic Star, C. II. Youngs Bavuchol Bob. 1L B.
