NORTH CLARK dashed up on the outside in the first quarter and, passing FANCY OEER after entering the stretch, had no trouble drawing out in the final furlong and winning by a wide margin. OUR GIFT was in rather tight quarters nearing the turn, but was up to be • second in the closing strides. FANCY DEER displayed good early speed, but weakened. SKIPPYS FIRST failed to keep up with the early pace, but improved his position after going half the trip and, catching BON ZEVIAL in the last sixteenth, won going away. The latter opened up a wide margin after leaving the backstretch and was hard ridden in the final sixteenth, but was not good enough. SPEEDY FOOT loomed as a strong contender rounding the stretch turn, but faltered in the final drive. BOBS CASH was always outrun. LOST SCARF tired. WATCH IT GROW headed SKY MAID after going a quarter and, widening after entering the stretch, was not in danger in the final furlong, winning in hand. EDUCT made a good move at midstretch and carried through courageously to best the others. FIRST SHANNON was going well at the finish. ACE CAPTAIN was in tight quarters on the inside on the far turn and again in the stretch. SKY MAID tired badly. SEPPIE was unable to keep up. SEVENTH TRIBE did not like the going and was beaten off. TIGER WANDER quickly raced to close contention and, gaining slowly on COLONEL WILSON after entering the final furlong, took command but was doing his very best at the end to hold HOMEPLACE. The latter dropped some distance back after breaking well and did not beccme prominent until midstretch was reached, then closed fast and would likely have won in a few more strides. COLONEL WILSON headed the field early and, showing good speed in the going, resisted rather stubbornly when challenged, but was not good enough for the first two: CHERRY failed to be a serious contender in the early stages, but finished with good courage. ROMAN SENATOR, close up early, was saved until the stretch was reached, then came to the inside to take command and, stealing into a good lead, was not in andnger coming to the end. FRASER VALLEY was far back for a half-mile and closed a big gap to finish fast. BE SWIV was close enough early but lacked much finishing strength. BIG BROADCAST made up some ground. STiCKS was always outrun. PRINCE ERIC v/as through after going six furlongs. CHARLES A. made a good run rearing the stretch turn, then stopped suddenly in the stretch.
