COSMIC LASS, well ridden, slipped through along the inner rail to attain closer contention leaving the final turn, continued on the inside for the stretch run and was up in the concluding strides to gain the decision. PILOTS LARK, always within striking distance while on the outside, remained in the middle of the track for the stretch run and closed with good energy in a sharp effort. GLEN ALDEN closed with a belated burst of speed and steadily was wearing down the leaders. PAVLOWA forged to the front nearing the furlong marker, then held on willingly thereafter when subjected to stern punishment. HOOTER TIME, a sharp factor from the start, took command with a rush when ready entering the stretch and briskly drew clear, winning with speed in reserve. ROYAL TOUCH raced GREAT ARTURO into defeat to reach the lead during the run down the backstretch, relinquished command to the winne" nearing the furlong marker and though no match for the latter held on willingly to prevail over FIGHTING BYRNE. The latter moved up menacingly leaving the final turn, but was unable to improve his position during the late stages when subjected to stern punishment. Kearns; bred by Calumet Farm. IN GATE-4:31. OFF AT 4:31 EASTERN DAYLIGHT TIME. Start good. Won easily; second and third driving. MR. TURF, away fastest, held sway to the stretch under steady rating and increased his advantage thereafter, winning with something left. BY JEEPERS moved up boldly on the outside entering the stretch, but drifted out continuously during the late stages and was unable to be subjected to stern punishment. A claim of foul against BY JEEPERS by the rider of BATFISH for alleged interference during the stretch run was not allowed. BATFISH, always within striking distance, came to the complete outside for the drive, but under stern pressure, was not good enough. CAESAR DID lugged in through the stretch and was unable to overtake the top ones. BLACK RECORD, shuffled back slightly on the far turn, recovered readily, but failed to rally when set down for the final test. SOUTH POINT began sluggishly and never menaced. MUEZZIN stepped to the front soon after the start, made the pace to the stretch under hustling tactics and, though swerving while tiring during the late strides, had enough left to outgame LOOK ALIVE. The latter, far back early, moved up boldly in the middle of the track to attain the runner-up position at the furlong marker, but attempted to lug in thereafter when punished and was unable to reach the leader. BIG BREAK, always within striking distance, failed to respond sufficiently when called upon for his best effort. TOP THAT, much used early, had little left. PRESS had no apparent mishap. UNREST was unable to keep up. MIDYEAR was outrun. Attendance, 22,019; Total Mutuel Pop, ,853,227.
