Breeders Special, Speed Handicap at Ak-Sar-Ben Former Event in Two Divisions; English Lad, Cross Ring in Dash By DEAN WILLIAMS Staff Correspondent AK-SAR-BEN, Omaha, Neb., June 27. The final full week of racing gets under way with Tuesdays well filled eight-race program. The two divisions of the Ak-Sar-Ben Breeders Special and the Ak-Sar-Ben Speed Handicap will highlight the fine card, and will be run as the fourth, fifth and sixth races. The Ak-Sar-Ben Speed Handicap for a purse of ,000 will be decided, over the five-furlong distance, and is certain to receive a great deal of attention. Olen Sledges Cross Ring was handed the top weight assignment of 118 pounds. English Lad and Set Shot will be. asked to carry equal weights of 117 pounds while Nymphs Pride will go to the post under 112 pounds, Hy-Ill Go 110, Babys Delight 110, The Snapper 108, and the three-year-olds Coliseo and Dog Fish at 105 pounds. The Speed Handicap will bring together the finest sprinters on the grounds and will serve as the medium for the renewed rivalry between - English Lad and Cross Ring, who have become the sharpest competitors over the sprint distances. The two met on June 11 in a five and one-half furlongs allowance race and were only a length apart at the wire with English Lad gaining the decision in 1:05. The time was just off of the track record over a track which was classed as good. The E. K. Carey colorbearer EnglisrfLad is picking up 10 pounds off this winning effort in that allowance affair while Cross Ring will be asked to carry only three more pounds. The abbreviated distance and, the shift in weights may make the race one of the most closely contested features offered during the current meeting. The Ak-Sar-Ben Breeders Special drew 24 entries and was split into two divisions by Ak-Sar-Ben manager J. J. Isaacson. The stake is designed exclusively for homebred three-year-olds and will be contested over the mile and 70 yards distance for a purse of ,000. White Spot Farms Reighoma and A. S. Hans OTulip will probably receive the greatest part of the publics support in their respective divisions. The White Spot Farm filly has won two of. four starts at the Omaha oval While OTulip has reached the winners circle three times in four starts. Reighoma. a daughter of Triple Crown winner Omaha, has proven herself over a distance of ground, but the A. S. Hans Yellow Tulip filly has not been asked to ga over six furlongs.
