Sonny Ray Williams Continues To Lead Ak-Sar-Ben Riders AK-SAR-BEN, Omaha, Neb., June 27. Sonny Ray Williams, the Electra. Texas, booter, continues, to lead the jockey race" at Ak-Sar-Ben which goes into the final six days of the 1955 meeting Tuesday. "Williams, who was the leading rider at the Omaha meeting in 1952, has been up on 34 winners, 17 seconds and 20 thirds since opening day on May 19. He has a total of 258 points under Ak-Sar-Bens system of awarding six points for a winner, two for a second and one for a third. Williams nearest rival throughout this meeting has been apprentice Larry Byers of Dolores, Colorado, who now has a 17-23-14 record for 162 points. In third place is Robert Mundorf of Johnston, Neb., with a 19-14-14 record for 156 points. Others among the top 10 riders, in order are, Robert Ford,- Eddie Burns, Thomas Osment, Gerald Gardiner, Fritz Becker, Billy Powell and Jay Fishburn. On closing day, Monday, July 4tlv, Ak-Sar-Ben will present its traditional Gold Trophy Cup to the leading rider, in addition to other awards to the leader and the runner-up.
