Illinois-Bred Simmy Dies; Suffers Ruptured Colon JAMAICA, L. I., N. Y.,.June 27.- The good three-year-old Simmy, who last spring set a worlds record for six and a half furlongs at Gulfstream Park in the colors of Mrs. Dorothy Pershall Belz, succumbed late Satur-! day night to an intestinal condition, according to trainer Tommy Root. The ! Illinois-bred colt was stricken shortly after his last race at Garden State Park on May 14. An autopsy performed ; by Dr. William O. Reed yesterday disclosed that the chestnut son of The Dude had suffered a ruptured colon. ! The veterinarian said that the condition was similar to that which nearly proved fatal to Mrs. John W. Gal-breaths Summer Tan following: his triumph in The Garden State last fall, in which, incidentally, Simmy finished second, but was more severe. This was the second tragic, but unavoidable loss suffered by trainer Root this year, following by approximately a month the death from injury of W. II. Wickhams sprint champion, White Skies.
