I., N. Y., June 27. An eight-pound weight concession proved a little too much for Wheatley Stables gallant gray. High Voltage, in the 60th running of the Gazelle Stakes today and the reigning queen of the sophomore fillies succumbed bya head and a neck to Christopher T. Chenerys Manotick and Rear-Admiral Howard A. Flanigans Two Stars. Arnold Hangers Rico Romance was another two lengths out of the money. Two Stars set the pace from the start in this mile and a sixteenth and appeared to have the race won when it became evident at the sixteenth pole that High Voltages game challenge was not going to succeed, but Angel Valenzuela brought Manotick up from sixth place at the eighth pole to triumph in the final stride. Patrons Favor Entry Manotick was widely overlooked by the crowd of 22,019 that backed High Voltage and Ogden Phipps Caustic down to odds-on, paying 3.70. The daughter of Double jay Scenery II., by Biribi, required 1:45 for the mile and a sixteenth and netted her owner 1,400 as she scored her first stakes victory. Manotick completed a lucrative double for Valenzuela, Chenery and trainer J. H. "Casey" Hayes, who had collaborated in the success of the first-time starter. Yarmouth, who paid 8.70 after winning the fourth race.
