CLOSE FINISH THE FEATURE Treasurer Gains Verdict in Ohio OhioState State Journal Handicap After AfterSpectacular Spectacular Struggle COLUMBUS Ohio May 12 A close and exciting finish came with the running of the Ohio State Journal Handicap the fifth and feature attraction of the program at Beulah Park this afternoon afternoonW W R Padgetts Treasurer gained the ver ¬ dict by a narrow margin in the final stride Miss Jennie went into the lead from the start and stayed in front by a safe margin until rounding the turn for home where Treasurer cleverly ridden by jockey H Hay and rated along under steady restraint moved up on the outside and gradually wore down the leader in a hard drive to outstay her at the finish Miss Jennie held on gamely near the end and racing stride for stride with the challenger was only bested in the last stride Grass Maid had a wide margin over the others for third place Ombrage the public choice tired badly under a heavy impost of weight weightIdeal Ideal conditions prevailed and a good crowd was on hand to witness the running of the midweek card cardSir Sir Glen took the measure of his oppo ¬ nents throughout the running of the opening race but was forced to do his best near the end to retain his advantage Yaneo made a determined challenge in the stretch but could not get up then held John Joseph safe for second place placeCobham Cobham coming to the outside of Lucille Russell when straightened out in the stretch quickly overtook the latter a sixteenth out and continuing fast drew clear near the end scoring a clever victory in the second race Lucille Russell held the others safe for the second place after leading to midway of the home stretch stretchLiborio Liborio scored a wellearned victory over Kentucky Rose and Princess Jane in a close and exciting finish in which Liborio just lasted to stall off Kentucky Rose in the final strides of the third race raceW W A McKinneys Ranock scored decisively in the fourth race after leading throughout and was well in hand at the end Hughes Graham outstayed Red Mill in the final drive for second place placeVictor Victor M showed the way to his opponents throughout in the sixth over a route of one mile and seventy yards The winner opened up a commanding lead during the early rac ¬ ing but although having the race safe was tiring rapidly and doing his best in the closing stages Piedra bested the others for second place with Erksine Dale a distant third
