CALGARY RACING SEASON Great Interest Manifested in inMeetings Meetings Now Under Way Wayin in Canadian Northwest CALGARY Alberta May 23 The spring race meeting at Victoria Park that ushered in the 1930 racing under the rules of the Prairie Thoroughbred Breeders and Racing Association began on Wednesday May 21 and will continue for the customary seven days On Saturday May 24 which wag Victoria Day in Canada and a general holi ¬ day notwithstanding the rumors of financial stringency in the West it was officially announced to the press that all previous records at any spring meeting for paid ad ¬ missions and amount of money handled through the mutuels had been broken brokenThe The racing has been full of interest from the start and with 387 horses stabled in the barns fields have been large The manage ¬ ment wisely ruled that not more than ten should start except where handicap accept ances called for more runners As many as fiftysix were excluded the first day fifty four the second day and on Saturday forty eight eightWhen When Victoria Park closes tomorrow the scene of action will shift to Calgarys mile course at Chinook Park will opens its gates on Saturday May 31 to a big crowd crowdThe The official family includes George W Schilling presiding steward J S Wallace presiding judge racing secretary and handi capper P C Galliger associate judge entry clerk and clerk of the scales James Donovan starter and E D Adams steward repiesent ing the Prairie Thoroughbred Breeders and Racing Association AssociationAfter After the close of Calgarys fourteen days racing practically all the horses will ship i y special train to Winnipeg to join those already there and those coming direct from Aurora Tulsa Chicago and Ohio Winnipeg starts its big summer racing festival at Polo Park on June 14 for seven days to continue at Whittier Park for the same period on June 24 The next move is to Marcus Daly Park Butte Mont which will open on July 4
