NEW HORSES IN CONDITION Babble Adds Another Purse to Earnings of Stable Seagram Stable Scores First Victory of Thorncliffc Meeting When Sphere of Heauty Wins TORONTO Ont May 28 Unsettled weath ¬ er conditions did not prevent a good crowd from turning out for the second days racing at Thorncliffe and those who made the jour ¬ ney to the track were rewarded when the skies cleared The rain that fell in the early hours of the day had the effect of rendering the track somewhat slow but a very inter ¬ esting card was decided In most of tho races large fields started and close finishes resulted resultedThat That trainer Jack Hutton has the R H New horses in excellent condition can no longer be doubted In addition to the several winning efforts that his charges have turned in at the Woodbine meeting Babble won for the stable today when he got up in the final strides to get a nose decision over Elizabeth Bolla in the Dundee Purse fifth and fea ¬ tured offering at the hilltop course today Third honors went to the Niagara Stables Swatter which finished fast to be but a halC length in the wake of the first two and a length and a half in advance of Black Dia ¬ mond Kingsway and Macil were the only other two to start Black Diamond received the bulk of the public support supportHarry Harry Giddings saddled his first winner at Thorncliffe when he sent Catchoo to the post for Dr R E Webster in the opening event This was a dash of threequarters for maiden threeyearolds and over Re ¬ tainer was second and Lindsay the favorite finished third V Smith had the mount on the winner winnerAnother Another big field started in the second race when a dozen juveniles were sent five fur ¬ longs under claiming conditions The winner turned up in Observation and it was the sec ¬ ond consecutive victory for the filly she having accounted for a purse at Woodbine A length and a half in the wake of the victor raced Noisy Miss while third portion of the purse went to Fast Life In her previous winning effort Observation beat Noisy Miss by a head Today her task was a much easier one and her margin over this filly was a length and a half halfWalls Walls a bit overanxious on Noisy Miss was busy on her from the start In the early stages he carried first Daley then Fast Life along at a rapid pace The result was that Noisy Miss had nothing left when the winner challenged Dainty rode a good race on the latter In the early stages he rated her back of the leaders and delayed making his move until they turned for home When called on Observation moved up with a rush to take the lead Dainty then became a bit careless and at the furlong post when clear he permitted Observation to swerve across in front of Noisy Miss and Fast Life There was no interference but the stewards deemed it a wise thing to teach the lad a lesson that he should keep a straight course with his mounts As a reminder of this they imposed a fine of 25 and also a suspension of three days daysColonel Colonel Seth defeated the cheaper grade of horses that started in the third race when he led home the Ascot Stables Rundale by a length and a half Two lengths in the rear of Rundale was Ebuford while fourth place fell to On Trial TrialThe The Seagram Stable sent their first winner of the meeting to the post when Sphere of Beauty accounted for the one mile and a sixteenth race for homebreds that was run as the fourth At the finish the Seagram representative had an advantage of a half length over Fair Oil from the Tliorncliffe Stable which in turn led home Granite Rock Sphere of Beauty dominated the race at all times but was forced to give her best to stall off the determined challenge of Fair Oil OilSeabright Seabright scored his second straight vic ¬ tory when he came back after beating Ruban Rouge at the Woodbine to win the sixth race Kurtsinger put up a well judged ride and a good finish Fair Folly started out like a winner and after entering the stretch witli a lead of a length and a half she fin ¬ ished second Wrackster was a fast closing third thirdBefore Before shipping from Woodbine W J Norton disposed of the threeyearold Surtees to John Bosley Jr
