j NEW CUP FEATURE ON j UNITED HUNTS PROGRAM I i i NEW YORK, N. Y., Oct. 11. Secretary H. A. Buck, of the United Hunts Racing Association, announced today at Jamaica that a new and important feature for the coming autumn meeting on election day, Tuesday, November 8, at Belmont Park, had been established a handicap sweepstakea, to be known as, the Whitney Gold Cup, at one mile and a half. A handsome gold cup will be presented by a "friend of distance racing," to be won three times, not necessarily consecutively. A replica is to be presented to the owner of the winner each year. This event will undoubtedly attract high class horses and add greatly to the interest of the meeting. The question of the name of this sporting event was finally settled by a distinguished member of The Jockey Club, who stated that the public would welcome the recognition of the great part played in this century of American turf history by the Whitney family through the association of such sportsmen and sportswomen as William C. Whitney, Harry Payne Whitney, Payne Whitney, Mrs. Payne Whitney, C. V. Whitney and Mrs. Gwladys Whitney, John Hay Whitney and Mrs. John Hay Whitney. This event should develop into one of the great features of the close of the New York autumn season, as it appeals to the public as a race instituted for the improvement of the stamina of the American thoroughbred as well as a great sporting spectacle.
