FIELDS CESAREWITCH COLT Special Correspondence. LONDON, England. At the recent Newbury autumn meeting, Marshall Fields colt, Corn Belt, brown four-year-old son of Son-in-Law, from Golden Corn, by Golden Sun, made amends for previous failures by winning the one mile and five furlongs John Porter Stakes, worth ,868. Corn Belt, an outsider of the field of four runners at 9 to 2, took all of jockey Joe Childs strength and artistry to get him past the winning post a nose in front of Lord Astors Creme Brilee, which conceded him eleven pounds. Many thought he was the victor. This victory brought Corn Belt a ten-pound penalty, raising his weight to 114 pounds in the Cesarewitch Stakes. Previously Corn Belt raced nine times without success. Last year he won once in five starts. He did not sport silks as a two-year-old. Victor Emanuels American-bred mare, Toney Princess, scored her second victory in six outings this season in the seven furlongs Lambourn Handicap at the same meeting. Toney Princess, brown daughter of Black Toney and Brown Princess, led home twenty rivals to win handily by half a length.
