ADDS TO WHITNEY WINNINGS . . i Hell Diver Triumphs in the Oceanui " Claiming Stakes at Jamaica. . Ideal Fall Weather Prevails for New York Sport On Tap Increases Her .String .of Victories. NEW YORK, N. Y., Oct. 11. The Oceanus Claiming Stakes, one of the minor fall features, for two-year-olds, at Jamaica, witnessed a triumph for the C. V. Whitney stable when Hell Diver, gelded son of Peter Pan Forshala, led home his opponents with ease. John J. Robinsons Little Lad was the one to race to second place, while Mrs. T. J. "Lewis How High, the popular choice of the field, was third. Flamborough, from the Belair Stud, finished in fourth place, while Garden Message, aided by "Pete" Bostwick, completed the field. The winner was ridden by Robertson and, in the absence of Fred Hopkins in. Maryland, T. J. Healey, head trainer, saddled the colt. Hell Diver, by his victory, added ,425 to the Whitney coffers. Another ideal fall day prevailed and a crowd of generous proportions witnessed some interesting racing over a fast track. There were two withdrawals from the Oceanus, Bolilee, from the Belair Stud, and Black Sheep, a stablemate of the winner. The start in the feature was a good one and Robertson had Hell Diver away in fuU stride. He drew away quickly and was pursued by Little Lad, while How High was racing in third place with - the other two lapped on each other some distance back. There was no change in the positions to the far turn, where Horn went to work on the favorite. He responded slowly and could not make up much ground. On the stretch turn, Pascuma called upon Little Lad and, as he went to the whip, the colt began to bear in. Pascuma had to take him up quickly and in so doing, lost some ground. However, Hell Diver drew away and, in the final eighth, had speed in reserve. Little Lad fought gamely to hold second place from How High, which had shaken off the others and finished well. Hell Diver was a neglected factor and turned in a good effort from a time standpoint, racing the distance in 1:12. Foreword, ridden by Jackie Long, was returned the winner of the third race over Drusus, while farther back was Cloudy Day. From a good start Drusus drew away into a long lead. Foreword was in nearest pursuit, while Cloudy Day was under severe pressure in the early running in an effort to keep up.
