RAIN AND MUDDY GOING Result in One Fatal Accident and Another Less Serious Debs Delight Eddy Lee and Sweep erman Victorious in Three Prin ¬ cipal Races of Card 1 DETROIT Mich June 26 Charles T Fishers Dixiana stable which played such a prominent part in twoyearold racing last season appears destined to offer another real threat in the juvenile division At the theFair Fair Grounds this afternoon Debs Delight a splendid looking son of Epinard and Miss Fire which won at his last asking carried owner Fishers solferino and buff colors to an easy victory over a field of five other well regarded youngsters in the third race The dash was the first of a trio of feature races and at the end of the five furlongs the Greentree Stables Up and Up the fa ¬ vorite was second with Mrs J McGraws Piping Hot third thirdOver Over the muddy track Debs Delight cov ¬ ered the distance in 101 and Woolf was easing the winner in the final sixteenth sixteenthGeorge George Woolf was astride the son of Epinard and giving one of his best exhibi ¬ tions of horsemanship he allowed Ariel Cross to take command when the latter of ¬ fered a battle in the opening furlong After leaving the back stretch Woolf sent the Fisher colt to the front and from there on there was no question as to Debs Delights superiority While Lady Flinders bore out badly near the final threeeighths and was eased up Up and Up came with a rush and the finish found him a length and a half back of the winner and three lengths before Piping Hot HotDebs Debs Delight and Ariel Cross carried equal top impost of 115 pounds each eachSEVERAL SEVERAL CLOSE FINISHES FINISHESDespite Despite a rain of torrential proportions which fell at scratch time this morning the original program of eight races withstood the change in track conditions and although small fields paraded for many of the races the contests were hard fought and provided several close finishes A largesized crowd braved the threatening weather that pre ¬ vailed sportA for the opening of the sport A fall and upset came with the running of the fourth race when R W Collins Eddy Lee was a driving winner and Cuirassier fell while racing in second place near the turn into the liome stretch H Neusteters Our Count was second with the Oaktree Stables Beckoned third thirdOnly Only five started over the threequarters and while Beckoned and Cuirassier showed the way for the first threeeighths Tommy Luther drove the winner past the leaders to take command after the close of three eighths Shortly afterwards Cuirassier fell but luckily P Roberts his rider escaped in ¬ jury Entering the stretch Our Count moved into second place and although unable to menace the winner which stumbled near the finish Our Count was six lengths before the tiring Beckoned which lasted to head the favorite Biff for the minor award awardCUIRASSIER CUIRASSIER DESTROYED DESTROYEDCuirassier Cuirassier later was humanely destroyed The son of Vito and Inquiry broke his left foreleg forelegShowing Showing improvement over his last effort J Freedmans Sweeperman was an easy win ¬ ner of the fifth race Electric Gaff was sec ¬ ond with Star Brook third The winner which opened at long odds was backed down to equal favoritism with Star Brook and after following the pace for threequarters went to the front with ease and finished un ¬ der light restraint restraintMoonsan Moonsan left the threeyearold maiden ranks by accounting for the first race Hop ¬ toit was second with the favored Albane third Ridden by L Dronet the son of San utar and Moongazer rushed into the lead soon after the start and increasing his ad ¬ vantage in the run to the stretch carne to the finish of the threequarters a length and a half before Hoptoit which bore over midway in the stretch While Genipa and and Joe Jacobs who injuriesWith was astride him suffered no injuries With Bahamas taking the lead at once Adamite was making a gamebid for lead ¬ ership when he bolted After a half mile Money Getter forged to the lead but Red Roamer rushed into command in the stretch and was under hard urging at the1 finish
