FATE OF MASSACHUSETTS RACING HANGS IN BALANCE BOSTON Mass June 26 The state sen ¬ ate decided yesterday not to allow legalized betting on horse or dog races in this state and then changed its mind decided to think about it overnight and reconsider it today todaySenator Senator Henry Parkman of Boston gave the bill another chance for life by moving to reconsider the vote by which it was de ¬ feated This prevailed on a voice vote voteIt It had been supposed that the parimutuel bill was assured of passage A straw ballot amendment was killed last week but in the vote of yesterday it was adopted in substi ¬ tution for the horse and dog racing bill billThe The bill was backed by James Roosevelt Bayard Tuckerman Jr and many influen ¬ tial society and sporting men The argument in its favor was that it would yield an enormous revenue which could be used for public welfare and old age assistance
