began moving up on the rail he was pinched back and had to move outside other horses Though he finished well he could not quite cope with the winners rush Crania and David W divided pacemaking honors Both Mary T and Lady Macaw were ridden by the veteran L Canfield CanfieldThe The third race which like the first brought together maiden twoyearold fillies was won by Jones McCoys Amazement a daughter Monks Shawl alternated at setting the early pace but neither could withstand the rush of the winner in the final sixteenth Butterfly and Edith W which shared favoritism had little excuse for their failure to get any part of the purse A purseA Thomas Lady Friend after misbehav ¬ ing at the starting gate throwing her rider and trotting off a quarter of a mile still had enough left in her to take the fourth race a sprint of six furlongs She went to the front at the break and was never head ¬ ed beating the well backed Gooseflesh by a length and a half Patsyette was third thirdGooseflesh
