ARLINGTON HEIGHTS 111 June 26 The field for the 4000 added Hyde Park Stakes next Saturday the first juvenile fix ¬ ture of the Arlington meeting began to take shape this afternoon when Bubbling Mate led all the way to win impressively by threequarters of a length in the Maywood Purse at five and onehalf furlongs which was the feature at Arlington Park ParkThe The gelded son of Bubbling Over which races for J and H Schleiter beat Hal Price Headleys Fort Springs with K E Hitts Sunned third The race run over a heavy track in 11273 and before a good weekday crowd of about 5000 was under allowance conditions It engaged six twoyearold colts and geldings of the better sort and all of them save Joseph E Wideners Great Haste are eligibles for the Hyde Park Stakes StakesBubbling Bubbling Mate although he left the maid ¬ en ranks in winning his last start was lightly regarded in the betting and was held at 15 to 1 when the field of six was dent away The price made no difference to him however for he showed at once in front and favored by the going did not even have to be urged to keep the lead over Great Haste and Fort Springs to the stretch turn Great Haste began to drop back there but Fort Springs had plenty of run left Mack Gar ¬ ner called upon the Headley gelding in the early stretch and before the furlong post Fort Springs had moved up on even terms with Bubbling Mate MateCorbett Corbett had been driving Bubbling Mate from the head of the stretch and Bubbling Mate showed courage in refusing to stop to Fort Springs challenge Instead he came away slowly as Fort to the finish finishMr Mr James still had a neck advantage over Carbine at the end with Chrysostom closing fast to be third a length and a half behind the leading pair Hoops was a distant fourth and Miney Myerson was last after having forced the early pace paceGeorge George Ogle took the lead over the other trainers in the first race when he saddled his own gray sixyearold Salisbury as his third winner of the meeting Best of the band of six platers that went to the post for the six furlongs dash Salisbury was slow to find his stride in the heavy going When called on by jockey Tipton in the stretch Salisbury stood a drive well to earn a neck decision over Mrs A B Letclliers Chief Bunting W J Potter Jrs Polvos Pride was three lengths back for third in a race run in 118 118Polvos Polvos Pride was the pacemaker with Chief Bunting close up from the start Sal ¬ isbury the betting choice was third in the early stages before making his move on the outside outsideA A field of nine youngsters which included some of the less highly regarded eligibles for next Saturdays Hyde Park Stakes came together in the second race at five and one half furlongs The easy winner by two lengths turned up in the Southland Stables Sage Girl a Hyde Park eligible Away forwardly and suited by the going Sage Girl quickly drew into a long lead and was never threatened The Shandon Farms Ross got through on the inside in the early stretch and closed fast to be second five lengths before the Calumet Farms Fair Countess CountessSage Sage Girls time was 112 and held at better than 15 to 1 in the wagering she was the first real outsider to score at the meeting meetingHermie Hermie Roy the threeyearold son of Brown Bud which races for Warren Wrights Calumet Farm was the first horse of the meeting backed down to oddson favoritism He got home the winner by a length and a half over G F Woodmans Chief Pilot but it took the combination of his own stretch running ability and a sharp ride by Eddie Arcaro to accomplish the task The Southland Stables Cold Steel closing fast on the outside from a slow start was six lengths back to be a distant third The time was 120 120Hermie Hermie Roy was never far back of the early pace made by Jascha and Chief Pilot and when the latter went to the front in the stretch Hermie Roy challenged on the outside Chief Pilot fought it out head and head for a furlong but faltered inside the sixteenth pole as the winner drew away slowly slowlyThomas Thomas C Wordens Repaid proved easily best of the five platers starting in the sixth race Caught in motion at the start he eas ¬ ily opened up a clear lead which he had no difficulty maintaining for the entire jour ¬ ney as Jack Westrope rated him cleverly Battling Girl made a bold effort at over ¬ taking the pacemaker after three furlongs but was not good enough while Glynson was away poorly and was in the deepest going next to the rail He was blocked by Repaid on the far turn and after dropping back was not able to threaten again Re ¬ paid with much in reserve passed the judges with four lengths to spare while Bat ¬ tling Girl had a final margin of five lengths over Glynson
