LATONIAS JULY 4TH FEATURE ; * . ] Independence Handicap Attracts Six , Starters — Late Date Heads List j of Probable Contestants. LATONIA, Ky., July 3.— A small but well-matched field of six has been designated as starters in the twenty-fourth renewal of the . ,500 added Independence Handicap at La-tonia Wednesday afternoon. If all of them start, and there is little likelihood of any of them withdrawing? the race, to be decided over a mile and a furlong, will have a gross value of ,995, with ,065 the net value to the winner. The race should be something worth while, for, with weights skilfully assigned, any one of them has a chance at the purse. Heading the list of entries is the Audley Farms Late Date and the Coldstream Studs Marmion, each of which is to carry 112 pounds. Late Date, last year, won the Enquirer Handicap here and Marmion ran second to New Deal in the same fixture at this meeting. Marmion has remained here since his engagement in the Enquirer, while Late Date arrived here Monday from Chicago. Next in the weight assignments comes Mose Goldblatts Contraband, which has been working well for the race, in which he will carry 109 pounds. H. C. Hatchs Shepherd Boy, just purchased from Laffoon and Yeiser, packs 105 pounds; the Young Bros. filly, Penncote, ninety-nine pounds, and the Ridgeview Stock Farms Ridge Mor ninety-six pounds. A well-balanced card also has been arranged in support of the Independence Handicap tomorrow. * Horses, post positions, jockeys and weights for the Handicap follow: PP. Horse. Wt.
