1 SYRACUSE TURF NOTES | • j Marshall Cassidy, steward representing the New York State Racing Commission, was an arrival. He will attend the opening and return to his New York duties at Empire. Frank J. Bryan, who will serve in the stewards stand as a representative of the New York State Racing Commission, arrived from New York. Post time for the first race will be at 2 p. m. standard time. Syracuse is one of the few state cities operating on standard time. Protests regarding weights must be made in writing to the stewards thirty minutes before post time, a notice in the secretarys office reads. The track was lightning fast for the morning workout period, and several splendid trials were recorded. John Cahill, employed by the State Fair Commission, is superintendent of the track and takes great pains in his treatment of the course. Fields in all races excepting handicaps will be limited to ten starters, it was announced by the stewards. Frank Hawley, custodian of the jockey quarters, reports the following riders are on the grounds: J. Leyland, C. Mills, J. Hernandez, D. R. Stuller, M. Lowe, M. Butcher, T. May, J. Guerra, R. Mozer, E. De Camallas, M. Scarborough, H Lauch, J. F. Prieto, J. McCabe, W. S. MeCabe and W. Balzaretti.
